Project Description
Gottsmann Architects is eagerly awaiting the final completion of the Industrial Shed Home located in Pretoria Gauteng.
This project is one of a few ongoing projects by Gottsmann Architects in Pretoria and surrounding areas.
This project has come a long way since early concept design proposals were done towards the latter end of 2013. The project has achieved practical completion and the owner is in the process of finalising the last elements on the house.
The 545m² Design is located on a 9753 m² property in the upmarket residential estate Mooikloof-Glen. The Estate borders on other upmarket estates like the Mooikloof Heights Estate and The Hills Estate. It is also down the road from another established estate: The Wilds Estate.
The design is comprised of a series of freestanding spaces with the Living Spaces, Children Bedrooms, Main Bedroom and Garage all being separate ”pods” which is connected via a passage. The passage allowed the other spaces to be pulled apart for privacy and creates the impression that the house is larger than it actually is.
The design aesthetic is a merger of Contemporary design and Industrial elements. Sheet metal roofs has been used as a primary design element whilst flat concrete roofs are used as connecting elements between the other spaces.
The design incorporates alternative building methods. Instead of using brick and mortar construction throughout, the design makes use of Lightweight steel construction which is clad in Sheet metal roofing to create the Second Storey. Lightweight steel has also been used as the flooring structure.
The lightweight steel construction makes use of a series of lightweight steel ribs with supports in between. This creates voids which can be filled in with thermal, sound & fire insulation.
Large expansive glass windows and doors have been used in the house to allow for ample amounts of natural light & ventilation in the house. The glazed elements have an improved thermal resistance due to it being double glazed, low-e glass or both.
The insulation within the house design combined with larger glass elements makes for the sustainable architecture which both the client and architects is striving for.
The project is due for completion in middle 2017.
The bold design has already turned heads (and is sure to continue) and received compliments from neighbours, contractors and specialists alike. The design is surrounded by houses which is more “classical” in nature and will surely set it apart from architecture and projects completed by other reputable Pretoria architects.
Gottsmann Architects is looking forward to its completion and showcasing it proudly as part of our portfolio of works.
