Home entrance makes it into the top 10

It’s time for some bragging! In a recent list compiled by Homify, Gottsmann Architects have been included within a list of Top 10 South African Home Entrances.
The Home Entrance belongs to our Contemporary Farmtsyle house.

The online platform for Architecture, Interior Design, Building and decoration set out to find 10 noteworthy entrances in South Africa to serve as some design inspiration for home entrances. In the opening paragraph they state: “It’s quite sad to realise that not everyone knows the importance of a front entrance – after all, it is quite literally the ‘first impression’ space of a house which immediately informs guests of what sort of style (and, to some extent, people) to expect from the home they’re about to enter.”

We couldn’t agree more. The Entrance to a house, or any building for that matter, is of utmost importance. It is the primary threshold between the outside world and what awaits inside. Museums, Shopping centres, offices and other buildings have celebrated entrances which draws you into the building and where you are then presented with something unique to that building. In some cases these spaces can be iconic through the world. Think of the Glass Pyramid at the Louvre museum, the “Pyramide du Louvre”

When it comes to homes, this is no different. The front door and home entrance becomes the dividing space between the outside world and your home, a place where you are comfortable and where you can be yourself.

This space also mirrors the overall design of the home and serves to be a summation of the design elements and styling of the home.

Homify had this to say about our home entrance design:
“The designers of this Johannesburg home opted for a fresh twist by merging contemporary elements with a more country-style setting – and this translates through to the entire house, including its exterior façade and front entrance. 

The end product? A dazzling display of colours, textures and materials.”

This entrance is part of the contemporary farmstyle home situated within Ebotse Golf and Country estate which was completed in 2011/12
The design of the house combines a contemporary architectural design with traditional farmstyle elements.

The house is located on a corner stand within the estate and from the outset the intention was to exploit the 2 street elevations. This led to an elongated elevation where-in the entrance could be positioned as a central node between the garages, living spaces and bedrooms.  A contemporary design element in the form of a flat concrete roof leads a person around from the garages to an covered sheet metal gable roof extension which is lined by timber and steel columns.

The covered walkway culminates at another concrete roof which extends from the fully glazed front door.Within this entrance design, the various design elements, styles & textures of the home is combined to create one harmonious space.
