Description
A new architectural challenge presented itself when Gottsmann Architects was tasked with the design of a Single storey house on a private wine farm in Cape Town for a couple and their two children. The single storey house design rests on a small hill with pristine Northern views. The views are directed towards the Langeberg mountains on which the private wine farm borders.
The project posed multiple challenges, including approvals from environmental bodies and careful design around the protected flora of the region. The living areas with wrap around verandas form the core of the family home. Bedrooms lie on both the East and West wings of the home. Terraced gardens gradually step down the hill creating platforms for outside entertainment and events whilst gradually merging with the natural landscape. The use of wood and stone in the architecture of the home, root the design into its context. The design seeks to compliment and disappear within the natural environment in which it is located.
